Ohio State freshman cornerback Ryan Turner had his black stripe removed following Buckeyes football practice Wednesday night.
All newcomers into the OSU football program have a black stripe placed down the middle of their helmets when they arrive. The removal of the stripe indicates that a player has done enough in practice to warrant being a full-fledged Buckeye.
Turner is now the 11th scholarship freshman to lose his black stripe for the Buckeyes and 17th player overall.
Turner was a 4-star prospect out of Chaminade-Madonna Prep in Hollywood, Florida. He was ranked the No. 37 cornerback nationally and the No. 341 player overall. He signed with Ohio State over offers from Clemson, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Florida, Miami, LSU, and many others.
Turner was able to see his first action with the Buckeyes in last weekend’s 77-21 win over Toledo. He did not record a tackle.
The Buckeyes signed four defensive backs in the 2022 class and now all four have had their black stripes removed. Safety Kye Stokes was the first. He had his stripe removed in April, followed by cornerback Jyaire Brown on August 9. Safety Sonny Styles was third freshman member of the secondary to lose his stripe on August 30.
Ten members of the freshman class still have their stripes.
