Ohio State has fallen three spots in the latest College Football Playoff Rankings, moving from No. 2 down to No. 5 following their 45-23 loss to Michigan this past weekend.
Georgia continues to hold the top spot, followed by the Wolverines. TCU is No. 3 as the third undefeated team remaining, and 11-1 USC comes in at No. 4, one spot ahead of the Buckeyes.
The final rankings will be released on Sunday following the conference championship games this weekend. Should USC lose Friday night in the Pac 12 Championship Game against No. 11 Utah, the Buckeyes should move up to No. 4 to take on presumed SEC Champion Georgia in the Peach Bowl semifinal in Atlanta, Georgia.
Should TCU lose, the Buckeyes may be okay there as well, but that scenario would carry many more nerves with it.
Or maybe USC will lose and TCU will lose by a few scores to No. 10 Kansas State in the Big XII Championship Game and then Ohio State will move up to No. 3 and play No. 2 Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl.
There’s still a lot to be decided this weekend for the top five teams in the latest rankings. Alabama is sitting at No. 6 and there is no logical scenario that can get them back into the picture.
Here are the full penultimate rankings.
