What I Know, What I Think, What I Wonder – December 9 Edition

I know that Todd McShay took some heat for reporting that NFL scouts believe Jaxon Smith-Njigba is healthy, but there are absolutely people in the League who think that Smith-Njigba chose not to play in order to protect his draft stock. His family has snapped back on that assertion. On Sunday, Ryan Day said they’d know more about JSN’s status in a couple of days. When asked if not knowing right now was a product of waiting for JSN to decide on opting out or his injury, Day answered “Both.”

I think if the latter is the issue, the former never truly comes into play. Smith-Njigba will have to answer questions about this during the interview phase, but there were plenty of us around OSU who were told he absolutely wanted to play. Upon the news that he wasn’t going to be available for the playoff, I immediately got a “told ya” text from a scout.

I wonder how many people understand that the biggest NFL issue for JSN is that he’s “average” physically in terms of height and weight. The NFL does not expect him to be overly fast either. But he catches everything and has better field awareness than anybody else in the draft. But he’s also “just” a slot receiver. Slot receivers end up being supremely valuable, but not necessarily guys who go in the top 10.

I know that Ohio State has the passing game to beat Georgia.

I think Ohio State has the front seven to beat Georgia.

I wonder if Ohio State has the secondary to beat Georgia.
