Big news for the Buckeyes by way of the transfer portal with the commitment of cornerback Davison Igbinosun. The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder played this most recent season at Ole Miss before entering the portal and now will call Ohio State home.
Igbinosun recently visited both Ohio State and Michigan this past weekend before coming to a decision. The Union (N.J.) product was one of the biggest names still available in the portal before ultimately deciding to join the Buckeyes.
This past season Igbinosun had 46 tackles for the Rebels in the SEC while playing in 11 games during his freshman campaign.
He will be joining an Ohio State cornerbacks room that is losing a starter in Cameron Brown but will return a pair of co-starters with Denzel Burke and Jordan Hancock. Ohio State was thin at corner in 2022 with just six available, something that necessitated kicker Jake Seibert to take reps at corner during the offseason with the Buckeyes being so thin.
Add to that mix that Jakalin Johnson exited the Ohio State program to join LSU during the offseason and the Buckeyes certainly needed an infusion of players with starting experience.
The Buckeyes will also be adding a pair of freshman corners with in-state Jermaine Mathews along with out-of-state Calvin Simpson-Hunt, giving the Buckeyes deeper numbers in the room.
But with Igbinosun coming in, you have to expect that he was show a path to the field after starting at Ole Miss. Igbinosun will have four years to play three after playing through his first season of NCAA competition.
We will have more on this breaking news including what it means big picture for the Buckeyes and if there are any other positions of focus (offensive line) via the portal here at BuckeyeHuddle.com.
