Five Ohio State assistant coaches have signed contracts that will pay them at least $1 million this year, including new offensive coordinator Brian Hartline, whose base salary has increased from $950,000 to $1.6 million following his promotion.
Six of the Buckeye assistants will be paid more than Jim Tressel’s initial base salary of $700,000 when he was hired to be OSU’s head coach in January of 2001.
Ohio State fulfilled a records request for assistant football coaching salaries on Thursday. Along with base salary and length of terms, bonuses were also detailed. For instance, if the team takes part in the College Football Playoffs semifinals, each coach will receive a bonus equal to 21.25% of their base salary. If they win their playoff game and make it to the National Title game, that bonus jumps to 25.5%. There is no bonus listed for winning a national championship.
Along with the 10 Ohio State assistants, OSU also included the salaries for graduate assistant James Laurinaitis, offensive analyst Todd Fitch (who works with the quarterbacks), general manager Mark Pantoni, and football operations staffers Quinn Tempel and Brian Voltolini.
All of the figures are included below.
