Quarterback Kyler Murray has his bodyguard. With the sixth pick in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals selected Ohio State left tackle Paris Johnson, Jr.
Johnson was the first offensive lineman selected in this year’s draft. The Cardinals traded up in order to select Johnson.
Johnson was a two-year starter at Ohio State. As a sophomore he started at right guard, then moved to left tackle as a junior for the 2023 season. He was a Consensus First-Team All-American as a junior.
Johnson came to Ohio State as a 5-star prospect out of Princeton High School in Cincinnati. And, just like he ended up in the NFL Draft, he was the No. 1 offensive lineman in the nation.
Johnson is the first Ohio State offensive lineman to be drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft since center Billy Price was selected 21st overall by Cincinnati in 2018. Johnson is now the 18th Buckeye offensive lineman to be drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft all-time.
Ohio State has now had 89 players selected in the first round all-time, which is the most of any school.
