A pair of Buckeye offensive linemen get to stay in-state to play in the NFL.
Senior right tackle Dawand Jones was selected by the Cleveland Browns with the ninth pick of the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft on Saturday, and center Luke Wypler was selected by the Browns with the 13th pick of the sixth round.
Jones was the second Buckeye offensive tackle drafted this year, joining left tackle Paris Johnson who went sixth overall to Arizona in the first round on Thursday.
Jones was a two-year starter at right tackle for the Buckeyes, earning Second-Team All-Big Ten honors each year. He was named a First-Team All-American by CBSSports.com.
A massive player at 6-foot-8 and 370-odd pounds, Jones impressed scouts with his length and mobility. He was a talented two-sport athlete at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. Jones also excelled on the basketball court where he averaged 17.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game as a senior and held several Division I scholarship offers.
Jones was ranked the No. 90 offensive tackle in the 2019 recruiting class and the No. 1,127 player overall. He was the 14th-ranked player in the state of Indiana.
Wypler was the 190th player drafted overall.
Wypler turned pro following a redshirt sophomore season where he earned Third-Team All-Big Ten honors.
Wypler was a two-year starter and three-time scholar athlete for the Buckeyes. He came to Ohio State from St. Joseph Regional High School in Montvale, New Jersey. He was ranked the No. 2 center in the 2020 recruiting class.
Wypler is the fifth-straight starting center at Ohio State to be drafted.
