Ohio State has announced three additions to future football schedules, and one alteration. The most immediate news is that the Buckeyes have added a game against Marshall for September 21, 2024 next season. Additionally, the game against Western Michigan that was scheduled for September 21 next year will now move to September 7.
The Buckeyes open the 2024 season against Southern Mississippi on August 31. All three non-conference games will be at Ohio Stadium. This means that Ohio State’s first conference game will be week three next year against an unknown opponent at an unknown location.
The 2024 Big Ten schedule will be announced later this year and will include the additions of USC and UCLA.
Ohio State also announced a pair of games for 2029. The Buckeyes have added Nevada for September 1, and Charlotte for September 8. They do not currently have any other non-conference games scheduled that year.
Earlier on Wednesday, it was reported by Action Sports’ Brett McMurphy that the Big Ten was looking to do away with their soft rule that asked Big Ten teams to play at least one Power 5 non-conference opponent.
That report seems accurate with this news from Ohio State that will surely disappoint fans and season-ticket holders.
Aside from 2024 and 2029, however, there are still currently a number of intriguing non-conference games. The Buckeyes have home-and-homes against Texas (2025, 2026), Alabama (2027, 2028), Georgia (2030, 2031), Oregon (2032, 2033), and Boston College (2034, 2035).
Those games, however, are subject to change.
