Is Winston Sold On the Buckeyes?

CALHOUN, Ga. – The tight end position has a lot of different shapes and sizes in today’s game.

Emaree Winston out of Calhoun (Ga.) is evidence of that, as the class of 2025 tight end may not be that 6-foot-7 prototype (he is 6-foot-3) or rocking 260 pounds (he is just 230 pounds).

That has not stopped the big-time offers coming with Alabama, Auburn, Colorado, Miami, Tennessee, Texas and of course Ohio State making up part of his impressive offer list.

Winston is extremely strong and just has a way of making plays and standing out on the field. And this is coming from a program that is sending a class of 2024 tight end to Auburn (Martavious Collins).

Winston has been to Columbus (Ohio) enough times that he may need a dorm assignment, having already visited Ohio State four times as a member of the class of 2025 including Ohio State’s spring game, a wild time for Winston as the Buckeyes led the nation in spring game attendance.

“Basically, it is a practice and you don’t expect 75,000 people to show up to a practice,” Winston said. “Maybe I am thinking 20,000 or something like that, not 75 (thousand). So that blew my mind once I heard that led the nation.”

Winston has developed a quick yet strong bond with Ohio State tight ends coach Keenan Bailey as he took over Kevin Wilson’s former room. Bailey was instrumental in the recruitment of many of Ohio State’s wide receiver targets along with Brian Hartline and now is having a lot of success with his own room.

Winston admits he is not in a major hurry to decide because he wants to avoid a trend that is becoming more widespread.

“I don’t want to be the type, nothing is wrong with it, to enter the transfer portal after I am committed to that school. I want to make sure it is right, spend to three to four years, I can help (them) and they can help me get to the next level. So, no commitment soon.”
