COLUMBUS — Ohio State head coach Ryan Day met with reporters immediately following the Buckeyes’ 37-17 win over Maryland. He discussed the performance by the Ohio State defense, a solid rebound from Kyle McCord, and ongoing concerns with the Buckeye running game. The highlights of everything he had to say can be found below.
- Couldn’t quite understand what was happening on offense to keep them from getting in a rhythm.
- That wasn’t a fake punt, just a bad snap.
- The No. 1 goal is to win, then also play well in the second half. Both of those things happened.
- “Some really good play by Marvin Harrison.”
- Why the early struggles? “I wish I had an answer to it. Shooters keep shooting.” They got off schedule too much and had some bad third down situations. Against ND, they stayed in more manageable situations. That wasn’t the case today.
- TreVeyon Henderson didn’t play, but they expect him to be ready for next week. They were trying to avoid a possible setback on something. He could’ve played today.
- He has no preference on winning with defense or offense. “As long as we win.” The defense did a great job with their game plan. There are still a ton of things they can get better at.
- Davison Igbinosun did a great job not being penalized for a blindside block on the Josh Proctor pick six.
- “This is an exciting team to be around.” The most exciting part about it is that they’re not close to being where they need to be or can be. They also don’t panic. In the past, there could be some panic. Not with this team. That will pay off the next two months.
- The concern level with his OL? “I gotta watch it one more time and just see where we’re at with what’s going on.” Maryland had a lot of guys in the box and that opened up the pass game in the second half. They expect to be running better than they did today. They have to watch the film and see what the problem was today.
