Ohio State sophomore cornerback Jyaire Brown and graduate kicker Parker Lewis are headed to the transfer portal.
Brown played in 10 games as a true freshman in 2022, including earning a start in the fourth game of the season against Wisconsin due to injuries to regular starters Denzel Burke and Cameron Brown.
After a solid freshman campaign, however, Brown only saw action in four games this season. The Buckeyes went into the portal after last season to bolster their cornerback room and landed Ole Miss Freshman All-American Davison Igbinosun.
The addition of Igbinosun and the relative good health of Burke and Jordan Hancock made playing time hard to come by. Brown also lost snaps to true freshman Jermaine Mathews, Jr., who has played in all but one game this season.
Brown will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Igbinosun and Mathews are both expected to be back next year, while Burke and Hancock will have decisions to make about their respective professional careers.
Brown is the third member of OSU’s secondary to transfer. He joins fourth-year junior Cameron Martinez and redshirt freshman Ryan Turner.
Parker Lewis spent two seasons at Ohio State, transferring in from USC in the summer of 2022. Lewis played in one game this season and none last year. He only attempted two kickoffs as a Buckeye and never attempted a placement of any kind.
Lewis was an Honorable Mention All-Pac 12 selection in 2020. He was expected to compete for the starting place-kicker job this year but lost out to former walk-on Jayden Fielding.
Five other Buckeyes have made their intentions known to enter the portal when it open at 12:00 a.m. on Monday. They will not be the last players to do so.
