COLUMBUS — No. 7 Ohio State (11-1) is headed to the 2023 Cotton Bowl where they will face No. 9 Missouri (10-2) on Friday, December 29.
The Buckeyes were effectively eliminated from the College Football Playoffs on Saturday when the Texas Longhorns defeated Oklahoma State in the Big XII Championship Game, but they were never going to be eliminated from one of the New Year’s Six bowls.
Ohio State has played in the Cotton Bowl just twice previously, winning both times. Their last visit to the Cotton Bowl came in 2017 against USC. The Buckeyes walked away with a 24-7 win over the Trojans. Their first ever trip to the Cotton Bowl came in 1987 and was a 28-12 win over Texas A&M.
The Buckeyes and Tigers have played 12 games previously, with OSU holding a 10-1-1 record against Missouri.
The last time these two teams played came in the second matchup of a home-and-home series in 1997 and 1998. The Buckeyes won the 1997 game on the road by a score of 31-10, and won the matchup in Columbus 35-14 in 1998.
Missouri’s lone win in this series came in 1976 when the Tigers defeated the Buckeyes 22-21 in Columbus. The two teams tied 13-13 in 1946.
Ohio State finished the regular season 11-1 with their lone loss coming at Michigan a little over a week ago.
Buckeye Huddle will have much more on this matchup in the coming days and weeks.
Ohio State head coach Ryan Day is set to meet with the media for a press conference at 3:00 pm on Sunday to discuss this matchup and many other aspects of his football team.
