The NCAA Transfer Portal has only been open for hours but several names from the 2023 Ohio State football team have announced their intentions and that list now adds another name as wide receiver Julian Fleming has gone to social media to make his decision public.
The former five-star was part of Ohio State’s class of 2020 and has spent four years in the Buckeyes’ program.
Injuries marred the start of Fleming’s career with the Buckeyes, limiting the 6-foot-2, 210-pounder to just 19 receptions over his first two seasons in the Scarlet and Gray.
Fleming has found himself in generational receiver rooms with the Buckeyes, joining the likes of players like Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka. That has limited the amount of opportunity for Fleming as a third option in the offense and 2024 was shaping up much the same with Carnell Tate and Brandon Inniss looking to take center stage next season.
It also probably did not help to see quarterback Kyle McCord, a member of the class of 2021, hit the portal earlier on Monday, creating another quarterback controversy going into 2024.
Fleming was Ohio State’s best blocking wide receiver and his 26 catches in 2023 were down from his career high of 34 in 2022. He also was kept out of the end zone after hauling in six touchdowns during the 2022 season.
This is the 12th player to announce either entering the transfer portal or their intentions to enter the portal since the end of the 2023 regular season.
