The Buckeyes have landed their first player via the transfer portal leading into the 2024 season less than 24 hours after the completion of the 2023 season. No, it is not a quarterback or offensive lineman, it is a tight end, a position that is not normally thought much about at Ohio State, but with the departure of Cade Stover, it has become increasingly important.
Will Kacmarek will head north on U.S. Route 23 from Athens (Ohio) to Columbus to join the Buckeyes after spending the past three years with Ohio University.
The new Buckeye will have two years to play two years after completing his redshirt sophomore season with the Bobcats. During the course of his career the 6-foot-6, 256-pounder had 42 catches for 507 yards and two touchdowns.
Ohio State not only is losing Stover but also already lost Joe Royer to the portal earlier in the month. The room will have players including Gee Scott Jr., Bennett Christian, Sam Hart and Jelani Thurman all returning while the Buckeyes signed a pair with Max LeBlanc and Damarion Witten in the class of 2024.
Ohio State loses Stover’s 41 receptions for 576 yards and five touchdowns after a 2023 season that saw the Buckeyes flounder offensively in the Cotton Bowl in a 14-3 loss to Missouri as bad luck at quarterback plagued the Buckeyes.
Who else will join the Buckeyes from the portal? There certainly are needs and with NFL decisions along with other potential portal movement ahead, there is no better time than now to be part of BuckeyeHuddle for all of your information. Keep it locked in here.
