Ohio State nose tackle Ty Hamilton announced on Monday that he is returning for the 2024 season.
“First of all I would like to thank God for the opportunity and blessing it is to be here at The Ohio State University,” Hamilton wrote on Twitter. “I want to thank my family and my coaches helping along the way in this journey but I think there is still some unfinished business that needs to be taken care of for the brotherhood. With that being said, I will be returning for another year. Go Bucks!”
Hamilton started seven games this year for the Buckeyes as a fourth-year junior, sharing snaps at nose tackle with redshirt sophomore Mike Hall, who has since declared for the 2024 NFL Draft.
Retaining Hamilton is huge for the OSU defensive front. While Hall got more publicity, Hamilton outpaced him in tackles (38 to 24), tackles for loss (4.5 to 2.0), and sacks (2.0 to 1.5). Hamilton was an important run defender for the Buckeyes this past season and he will bring that ability with him next year, as well as the kind of experience that every coach wants on the line of scrimmage.
Hamilton’s return coincides with the return of starting defensive tackle Tyleik Williams and defensive end Jack Sawyer over the past week. Ohio State is still waiting for an announcement from starting defensive end JT Tuimoloau as well.
Cornerback Denzel Burke will be announcing his decision on January 10. Senior safety Lathan Ransom already announced his return last week.
So far, the Buckeyes have lost just two underclassmen to the NFL Draft — running back Miyan Williams and Mike Hall. Receiver Marvin Harrison, Jr. is expected to enter the NFL Draft and will be a top-five pick. Running back TreVeyon Henderson, receiver Emeka Egbuka, and left guard Donovan Jackson have also yet to make their respective announcements.
