TreVeyon Henderson Announces Return For Senior Season

Ohio State junior running back TreVeyon Henderson is coming back for his senior season as a Buckeye.

The junior announced on Friday that he will not be entering the 2024 NFL Draft as many expected, and will instead be returning to Ohio State for his senior season.

Henderson was a First-Team All-Big Ten selection as a junior in 2023 after rushing for 926 yards and 11 touchdowns. He missed three games, but his 92.6 yards rushing per game was good for second in the Big Ten this season.

Henderson has dealt with injuries each of the past two seasons. As a sophomore he suffered foot issues which affected him for much of the season before finally having to shut things down late. As a junior in 2023 he took a hit to the ribs against Notre Dame which forced him to miss the following three games.

As a true freshman in 2021, Henderson rushed for 1,248 yards and 15 touchdowns. That included an Ohio State freshman-record 277 yards against Tulsa, which was just the third game of his career.

This year for the Buckeyes, Henderson has hit the century mark in four of his nine games, with a season-high 162 yards in the 24-10 win at Wisconsin.

Henderson’s return is a huge boost for the Buckeyes and also mitigates the departures of running backs Miyan Williams, Evan Pryor, and Chip Trayanum. Pryor and Trayanum both entered the portal this winter, while Williams announced his intention to enter the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Buckeyes return just two scholarship running backs from this year’s team, assuming second-year tailback Dallan Hayden doesn’t go anywhere. Ohio State has also received a commitment from Ole Miss running back Quinshon Judkins, who has been a First-Team All-SEC performer in each of the past two seasons. The Buckeyes also have two running backs committed in the 2024 recruiting class.

The departure of starting quarterback Kyle McCord into the transfer portal in early December guarantees a different starting backfield for the Buckeyes in 2024, but not without a familiar face thanks to the return of TreVeyon Henderson.

Henderson’s return rounds out the list of potential Ohio State NFL departures and Ohio State did quite well in keeping players in Columbus. There should be a very familiar look for the 2024 Buckeyes in many key positions.
