Freshman Wide Receiver Bryson Rodgers Returning To Ohio State After Entering Transfer Portal

Brian Hartline has finally landed somebody out of the transfer portal.

Ohio State has had a slew of juniors announce their returns over the past week, and today they had a freshman do the same as wide receiver Bryson Rodgers revealed on social media that he would be leaving the transfer portal and returning to the Buckeyes.

Rodgers entered the portal shortly after the Cotton Bowl, and as recently as this weekend he took an official visit to Florida. Ultimately, however, the Zephyrhills, Florida receiver decided to return to Columbus and play with the Buckeyes.

Rodgers saw action in just two games this season, so he will have four years of eligibility remaining.

Behind the scenes, teammates touted Rodgers’ effectiveness and consistency in practice and his “wild” 90% catch percentage when targeted by quarterbacks.

Rodgers was not the only wide receiver to hit the portal for the Buckeyes after the season, as freshman Noah Rogers and senior Julian Fleming did the same. Ohio State also lost sixth-year senior Xavier Johnson and junior Marvin Harrison, Jr. to the NFL. So Rodgers’ return is a boost to what was becoming a relatively thin receiving room for offensive coordinator Brian Hartline.

As to where Rodgers will line up for the Buckeyes, he spent his first season as a slot receiver. If Ohio State chooses to move Emeka Egbuka outside, then Rodgers and classmate Brandon Inniss could be a talented 1-2 punch on the inside for the Buckeyes.

As a high schooler at Wiregrass Ranch, Rodgers finished his career with 110 receptions or 1,625 yards and 29 touchdowns in 26 games. He was ranked the No. 49 receiver in the 2023 recruiting class and the No. 357 player overall.

For the Buckeyes, he will rank much higher as they break in a new starting quarterback.

Bryson Rodgers is originally from Warren, Ohio.
