Ohio’s class of 2027 is already showing a lot of promise, especially in the Cincinnati area. One of the top rising sophomores in the state is Anderson High product Ashton ‘Ace’ Alston.
Alson has already burst onto the recruiting scene over the past several months, picking up scholarship offers from the likes of Arkansas, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Wisconsin, among others.
“It feels great,” Alston said of the early attention. “I know how much work I’ve put in and it just motivates me to go even harder.”
Alston has a slew of spring visits setup for out-of-state programs but is eyeing multiple trips to Ohio State over the summer.
“I’ll be up at Ohio State,” Alston explained. “We’ll be doing a 7on7 up there and I’m going to try to get up there a second time too.”
Alston was able to get a look at Ohio State last summer and the Buckeyes are a program of high interest early in his recruiting process.
“I watch Ohio State all the time,” he said. “I’ve been up there and toured the facilities. The coaches are real nice.”
The emergence of Cincinnati area product Jermaine Mathews Jr. has brought a lot of attention toward the Buckeyes’ secondary from high school prospects in the Queen City and Alston is no different.
“I’ve been watching Maine (Jermaine Mathews Jr.),” Alston said. “He came out of Winton Woods so I’ve been watching his highlights and everything. I also grew up watching Denzel Ward. I’ve been watching Marvin Harrison, really all of their stars.”
“It only pushes me, seeing a kid right down the street from us playing big time football,” he added. “It just motivates me to work even harder.”
