Buckeyes a Serious Contender for California Star Phillip Bell

Ohio State hosted an almost embarrassingly good group of receivers over the weekend as the Buckeyes continue to find themselves as top contenders for many of the nation’s top prospects at the position. Mission Viejo (CA) star Phillip Bell was among those in attendance and the Buckeyes continue to make a strong impression on the four-star prospect.

“The whole visit in general was great,” Bell told BuckeyeHuddle.com. “My favorite parts were just being able to really have a chance to talk to coach Hart , coach Kelly and coach Day. Watching practice was big too, just seeing if I could see myself there which I do.”

The three-headed monster of Buckeye offensive minds has given Bell a lot to think about.

“I feel like all three coaches have been excellent with their guys in the past and just are great guys that I believe can develop me,” Bell said. “Everyone has seen what coach Hart has done with his receivers and he is just a great coach. Coach Day is a great offensive-minded coach and he’s just a great coach to talk to. Coach Kelly has been everywhere and coached a lot of guys so I feel like the proof is in the pudding with him. Ohio State is the place to be.”

While Ohio State has been able to show Bell that they are serious about him, Bell has also done the same in return, making several unofficial visits across the country to check things out in Columbus.

“This was my third time there and my fourth will be my OV so they’re a big contender,” he acknowledged. “I know that they want me there and I feel like that is a school I would be very happy to go to. So I say very high contender.”

Bell wasn’t the only California star on campus over the weekend and discussions were definitely had about a California-to-Ohio pipeline.

Jordon Davison and Jadyn Hudson are some of my closest friends,” he added. “We’re all from the Bay Area so I feel like all of us at Ohio State would be crazy.”

Bell has a handful of official visits scheduled for the month of June, including a return trip to Ohio State the weekend of June 14th. He’ll have a lot to think about over the next few months with so many options to choose from.

“My biggest importance is what school I know can push me everyday and can just develop me to be the guy I want to be.”
