One of the nation’s top rising junior offensive linemen was back on campus this weekend in Vero Beach (FL) star Micah ‘Champ’ Smith. The early Top 100 prospect has made multiple visits to Columbus already during his recruiting process and the Buckeyes once again made a great impression on the four-star prospect.
“So the whole purpose of my spring visit to Ohio State was to see how the coaches interacted with the team,” Smith told BuckeyeHuddle.com. “Learning more about the scheme, and frankly, just being around the program trying to get the best feel for the program, university and city of Columbus.”
Mission accomplished, as Smith continues to like what he sees and hears from Ohio State.
“Coach Mike Sollenne did a fantastic job of hosting my dad and I,” Smith recalled. “I spoke to Coach Day and Coach Frye and they both made me feel more and more comfortable about Ohio State.”
Ohio State has made it clear to Smith that he is one of their priority O-Line targets in the 2026 class and Smith and the coaches were able to ‘get into the weeds’ a little bit on this latest visit.
“Coach Frye and I discussed X’s and O’s,” Smith continued. “(Day and Frye) both emphasized the importance of the Ohio State family on and off the field. I feel they genuinely cared about me having success as a man in life. Both my dad and I agreed on that.”
Smith plans to return to Ohio State two more times in 2024. He’ll be back for a camp in June and he and his father intend to visit for the Michigan game in November.
Smith attends the same high school as recent Ohio State linebacker commit Tarvos Alford.
