Ohio State Safety Ja’Had Carter Entering Transfer Portal

Ohio State safety Ja’Had Carter is entering the transfer portal per a report from Pete Nakos.

Carter joined the Buckeyes last year out of the portal, transferring from Syracuse where he had been a three-year starter.

Carter played sparingly for the Ohio State defense last season, seeing action in eight games and posting just five tackles.

The Buckeyes were expecting Carter to challenge for a starting job last season, which he did, but ultimately lost out to veterans Lathan Ransom and Josh Proctor.

Carter dealt with injuries this spring as well, limiting his opportunities. Matters weren’t helped when the Buckeyes went into the portal in January and solidified the defense with Alabama free safety Caleb Downs.

Carter has the versatility to play throughout the secondary but could just never find a role with the Buckeyes. He is now the third departure into the portal for Ohio State this year, joining redshirt freshman safety Cedrick Hawkins and junior running back Dallan Hayden.

The transfer portal is open through April 30.
