WHITE, Ga. – The state of Georgia has turned out some memorable quarterbacks through the years and class of 2026 signal caller Brodie McWhorter could be the next in line. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound composite four-star already has the offer list and the tape to prove it, but there will be some time between now and the moment he is ready to step foot on his next campus.
Former Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence hails from nearby Cartersville High School but McWhorter is setting his own legacy at neighboring Cass.
Closing in on two-dozen offers, including one from Ohio State, what is a team going to be getting in McWhorter?
“My strengths definitely are just throwing the ball around the field no matter what level we’re at. First, second, third, I’m ready to sling it,” McWhorter said. “I think I shocked a lot of people last season with my legs.”
At first glance, Lawrence would not have had the look of a runner either.
“Nobody thought I could run,” McWhorter added. “They thought I was just a statue back there, but I wanted to make plays out of nothing, escape out of the pocket. Just make plays with my feet.”
McWhorter has had a chance to get around this spring, not with his feet but rather a car, as he has made stops at places like Florida, Auburn, Alabama, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Georgia, and Ohio State.
The Buckeyes are the only team on that list not in the South. What is it about the Buckeyes?
“Growing up, Ohio State was always a dream school with Oregon,” McWhorter said. “So just growing up, I loved watching Ohio State offense and just love watching them sling the ball.”
The talented quarterback hopes to get up to Oregon as well as he really starts to weigh his options. He also has a visit to Clemson as well as a return trip to North Carolina set up for early June.
McWhorter is a little young to remember firsthand what Kelly did at Oregon, but with the ex-Ducks head coach now the current offensive coordinator at Ohio State, it seems like the union of two loves.
McWhorter had a chance to really study what Kelly did during Ohio State’s spring practice.
“Coach Kelly, he’s hands-on, makes sure after every rep, working with the guys, telling them what they did right, telling them what they did wrong, always encouraging them,” McWhorter said. “That was just great to see how involved he is with the players.”
That is not the only thing that McWhorter picked up while he was at Ohio State.
“My eyes (were) on thoroughly enrollees Julian Sayin and Jeremiah Smith, watching them,” McWhorter said. “I watch Julian Sayin (tape) almost every week, just highlights him slinging the ball, and Jeremiah Smith is just a freak athlete, so it should be fun to see what they do on Saturdays.”
McWhorter will be one to watch as Ohio State has a national search for its class of 2026 quarterback. Be sure to check out more in the video below to learn more about the national QB target in our exclusive Southern Swing video interview.
