Ohio State’s defensive recruiting has been on a tear lately and the Buckeyes have added another blue-chipper with Monday night’s commitment of Maxwell Roy. The 6-foot-3, 270-pound lineman chose the Buckeyes out of a list of close to 20 schools but most notably Michigan and Rutgers.
Hailing from Philadelphia, Roy attends St. Joseph’s Prep, the same school that produced current commit Isaiah West and former Buckeyes Marvin Harrison Jr. and Kyle McCord.
Roy is a top-250 player nationally according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings but there are differing opinions among the services. Obviously, the opinion of Larry Johnson is that Roy has what it takes to be a member of the Buckeyes and a productive member at that.
Ohio State puts great value in multi-sports starts and Roy checks off those boxes as a talented high school heavyweight wrestler along with being involved with throwing events in track and field.
The Buckeyes could become very thin at defensive tackle after this season with Ty Hamilton, Tywone Malone, Tyleik Williams and Hero Kanu all draft eligible. While all four may not declare after this season (or run out of eligibility) things get thin in terms of experience and it was critical for the Buckeyes to put extra emphasis on the interior defensive line moving forward with 2025 and beyond.
All eyes are now down south as the Buckeyes work to flip current Auburn commitment Malik Autry and have him join the class. He is tight with current Ohio State commit Zion Grady. Grady is more of an edge, Roy looks to be a three-technique while Autry could be a true nose guard.
Ohio State recruiting is moving at a rapid pace, you can’t afford to miss out on anything, so be sure to keep it locked in here at BuckeyeHuddle for all the latest news on your favorite team.
