Buckeyes Welcome Back Priority Defensive Back Target Jakob Weatherspoon

Ohio State put out an early offer to class of 2026 Avon (Ohio) defensive back Jakob Weatherspoon after a strong camp performance in June. This past week, the Buckeyes welcomed back the talented junior for an unofficial visit to get a more in-depth look at the Ohio State program.

“I got to see how OG (Ohio State cornerbacks coach Tim Walton) and all the other staff treat the players and talk to them,” Weatherspoon recalled. “As you just walk around the facility, you can really see how much everyone loves each other and everyone got everyone’s back no matter offense or defense.”

Weatherspoon pointed to his conversations with Walton as the highlight of his visit. Since Walton’s return from the NFL, he has quickly established himself as one of the nation’s best recruiters and developers of talent.

But Weatherspoon has bonded with Walton on a level beyond football. The conversations go deeper than that, with life lessons and advice.

“All his experience that he has, I mean he’s been around football his entire life and he has seen what happens after football is over,” Weatherspoon said of Walton’s success. “So now that he’s seen it, he shows us players and recruits how to have a great (life after football) and get into real estate and things of that nature.”

It’s very early still for the 2026 class but the Buckeyes are giving Weatherspoon a lot to think about and are making the in-state star an early priority target.

“I feel I am very close with a lot of people on the staff,” he said. “And that’s obviously a key role when it comes down to choosing a school.”

Weatherspoon is an early four-star prospect in the 2026 class.
