Buckeyes Open At No. 2 In Initial AP Poll

Ohio State has opened at No. 2 in the initial AP Poll, which is the same spot they opened one week ago in the initial edition of the Coaches Poll. Georgia is No. 1, just as they were in the Coaches Poll. The Bulldogs received 46 first-place votes.

Ohio State received 15 first-place votes.

Oregon opens at No. 3, Penn State is at No. 8, and Michigan is ranked No. 9. USC and Iowa are ranked Nos. 23 and 25, respectively.

The Buckeyes opened at No. 3 in last year’s preseason AP Poll and finished No. 10.

This is the 12th-consecutive year that Ohio State has been ranked in the top six of the preseason AP Poll. Eleven of those 12 years — and in each of the last eight years, they’ve been in the top five.

The Buckeyes also opened the 2022 season as the No. 2 team in the AP Poll. They have now opened at No. 2 in the AP Poll seven times in the past 17 seasons (2024, 2022, 2020, 2017, 2013, 2010, 2008).
