The Ohio State Buckeyes got their 2024 season off to a winning start, knocking off in-state opponent Akron, 52-6 in front of more than 102,000 fans at Ohio Stadium.
The biggest story of the day was freshman WR Jeremiah Smith, who lived up to his considerable hype with six receptions for 92 yards and two touchdowns in his college debut.
The Buckeyes got off to something of a slow start, and led 17-3 at the half, before pulling away in the third quarter. A pair of defensive touchdowns in the second half, a scoop-and-score fumble return by SAF Lathan Ransom, and a pick-six by LB Gabe Powers, helped pad out the final score.
