What was rumored and expected was made official on Tuesday afternoon as Ohio State head coach Ryan Day announced that starting left tackle Josh Simmons is out for the season after suffering a knee injury in the first half against Oregon last Saturday night.
The news is a tough blow to the Ohio State offensive line as Simmons had been playing the best football of his career so far this season and was becoming an intriguing prospect for the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Buckeyes will turn first to fourth-year offensive tackle Zen Michalski to fill the void left by Simmons. Michalski entered the Oregon game when Simmons went down and filled in admirably in a tough spot. Ohio State is hoping that will continue now with getting the starters’ reps in practice.
For Simmons, it is unclear at this point whether or not the injury will impact his decision to enter the 2025 NFL Draft. Simmons could opt to return to Columbus for a fifth-year of eligibility.
