Caledonia (MI) quarterback Bryce Backus is picking up quite a bit of momentum on the recruiting trail lately. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound class of 2027 prospect made a visit to Ohio State over the weekend for the Buckeyes’ 45-0 shutout win over Purdue.
“The OSU visit was amazing,” Backus told BuckeyeHuddle.com. “I got a chance to have a great conversation with Coach Kelly and their staff were very friendly. It was my first time at the shoe and that place was electric. The fans there were very awesome and super supportive. So in all it was a very great time.”
This was Backus’ first look at what things are like on a game day at Ohio State and he was not disappointed.
“My favorite part was getting to go on the field and see what it’s like for the players on game day,” he explained. “But what stands out is the fans there and it was like an atmosphere I’ve never seen.”
Under Ryan Day, Ohio State has turned itself into a program that most top quarterbacks at least have to look into during their recruiting process and that is no different in this case.
“Well they’re always competing for Big Ten championships and the college football playoffs obviously,” he said. “They also have had some great quarterbacks through their system that have been very successful.”
Backus has made the rounds to several Big Ten programs this fall including Michigan State, Michigan, and Purdue. He added that he might be at Northwestern on Saturday which would give him a second in-person look at the Buckeyes.
