What I Know, What I Think, What I Wonder — The Seth McLaughlin Fallout

I know the team is devastated for Seth McLaughlin right now. There isn’t any “woe is us” with the team in terms of “what do we do now,” but rather just empathy for a guy they have all come to know and respect. Seth fit into this program from day one. Within about a month, it was like he was always here, but he never acted like he had always been here. He was always more focused on earning trust, doing his job, building relationships, and learning the offense. All of that made him the unquestioned leader of this offensive line by the start of the season.

I think we all had the same initial thought when we heard the news about Seth McLaughlin’s injury. It was pretty much the same thought after losing Josh Simmons. Before the season, the question about most-irreplaceable offensive lineman always landed on Josh Simmons. Once Simmons went down, the really apocalyptic people started wondering what would happen if Seth McLaughlin went down.

I wonder what Senior Day is going to be like for him this year. He has loved his time at Ohio State and this is going to be a very bittersweet day for him. Hopefully the crowd gives him his due when he is announced. He came to Ohio State because he wanted to be a part of the culture here and win a national championship. Seth McLaughlin’s season may be over, but the national championship is still very much alive.
