Ohio State had been working overtime trying to keep five-star Birmingham (Ala.) Parker cornerback Na’eem Offord in the fold. After landing his commitment back in February, Ohio State spent the next 10 months playing defense against the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Oregon, and others for the lockdown corner.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Buckeyes lost the battle as Offord flipped his commitment to Oregon.
Ohio State was able to get Offord back on campus over the weekend, which did provide some hope that the Buckeyes would be able to hold on to one of the nation’s elite prospects. But Auburn and Oregon both continued to push throughout the week and the Ducks ultimately won out.
The Buckeyes did sign multiple cornerback prospects on Wednesday, however, landing five-star Houston (TX) North Shore product Devin Sanchez as well as three-star Cartersville (GA) standout Jordyn Woods.
Additionally, the Buckeyes signed three safety prospects, making for a pretty loaded defensive back class.
It’s unclear where the Buckeyes will turn in replacing Offord and whether or not that help comes via the late high school signing window or the transfer portal.
