Ohio State took a big step in addressing its need for offensive linemen in the transfer portal on Wednesday morning, landing Minnesota offensive tackle Phillip Daniels.
Daniels, an Ohio native and graduate of Princeton High School in Cincinnati, is one of the top-rated offensive tackles available in the portal.
The 6-foot-5, 315-pound redshirt freshman started the final four games of the season at right tackle for the Gophers and will have three years of eligibility remaining in Columbus.
Daniels comes from the same high school program that produced former Ohio State star Paris Johnson Jr. He played 300 snaps for the Gophers as a redshirt freshman.
Daniels camped with Ohio State the summer before his senior year at Princeton but was not offered by the Buckeyes at that time and ultimately chose Minnesota over offers from Boston College, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Purdue, and others.
The Buckeyes could slide Daniels into the lineup at right tackle or have him make the move to left tackle, where he had experience playing in high school. Either way, this is the first of what will likely be at least three offensive lineman the Buckeyes will take in the portal this off-season.
