Less than 24 hours after winning the Rose Bowl and punching their ticket to the College Football Playoff Semifinals, Ohio State has picked up a key commitment in the 2026 recruiting class. Four-star defensive back Jakob Weatherspoon announced on Twitter that he has picked the Buckeyes.
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound defensive back out of Avon (Ohio) chose Ohio State over offers from Michigan, Notre Dame, and Penn State, among many others, to become commitment No. 4 in the Buckeyes’ 2026 recruiting class and the first defensive player in the class for Ryan Day and Co.
Weatherspoon is a four-star prospect with tremendous versatility. He could play cornerback, slot, or even safety at the next level but the Buckeyes have been recruiting Weatherspoon to play corner/slot.
Weatherspoon was initially offered after an impressive summer camp performance last June. He made several unofficial visits to Ohio State during the season and emerged as a top priority in the 2026 class for Tim Walton in what is a loaded year for defensive backs in the state of Ohio.
As a junior, Weatherspoon helped lead Avon to the OHSAA Division II State Championship.
