Hero Kanu Latest Buckeye To Hit The Portal

It has been busy on the transaction wire for the Buckeyes ever since winning the national championship on Monday night.

Players coming and players going making news throughout Buckeye Nation and news on the defensive line with the announced departure of Hero Kanu.

The junior nose tackle has spent the past three seasons with the Buckeyes after committing to Ohio State as a four-star out of Santa Margarita Catholic HS (Calif.) after moving to the United States from Germany.

Kanu took social media by storm as a high school player, just picking up the game of (American) football and pushing players around.

Kanu played in nearly every game this season for the Buckeyes, recording four tackles on the line from his nose tackle position, backing up Tyleik Williams.

With the departure ahead of him of Williams, it looked like it was going to be a battle between Kanu and Kayden McDonald for the one-technique position in 2025.

Ohio State’s defensive line is going to have a very different look to it with the losses of Williams, Ty Hamilton and of course defensive ends Jack Sawyer and JT Tuimoloau. Among others.

Ohio State and Notre Dame players were given a couple of extra days to make portal decisions as the two teams played all the way until January 20th and couldn’t easily stay within the portal window that other teams were constricted to.

The Buckeyes will have a chance to come together as a team one more time on Sunday for a Celebration of Champions as Ryan Day, Ted Carter and others will have a chance to talk to an adoring fanbase to honor Ohio State’s 9th claimed national championship in football.

After that? Transfers will be looking towards new schools; returners will be looking towards winter conditioning and Ohio State fans will be counting down the days to the start of spring football.

There will be a lot more questions than answers in the coming weeks, but one thing that we do know, Hero Kanu will be suiting up for a new team in the 2025 season and the Buckeyes will be looking to reshuffle numbers at defensive tackle with one player that was expected to make an impact now out of the count.
