Ohio State offensive line coach Justin Frye is reportedly leaving to take the same position with the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals. This is according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Frye, whose contract with Ohio State expired yesterday, had also interviewed with the Chicago Bears.
It has been a tumultuous three years at Ohio State for Frye, who has been criticized for recruiting misses, but put together a showcase of development this past season for the Buckeyes.
Despite losing starting left tackle — and projected first-round pick — Josh Simmons, as well as Rimington Award-winning center Seth McLaughlin, Frye was still able to shuffle the offensive line chairs and have his line perform well enough to win a national championship.
Frye’s departure is now the second for head coach Ryan Day’s OSU staff, following defensive coordinator Jim Knowles leaving for Penn State. That position is still yet to be filled.
Buckeye Huddle will have more on this news as it happens.
