The new 2025 Ohio State football coaches have not been officially hired or announced yet, but the news of who will be added to the staff has been slowly and surely trickling out via social media to an Ohio State fan base eagerly seeking some information. Think about the turnover and upheaval Ohio State fans have experienced since the 2024 national championship was won on January 20th ~
- News of Jim Knowles’ departure to Penn State filtered out during the celebration on January 26th
- News of Justin Frye’s departure to the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals came about February 1st
- News of Chip Kelly’s departure to the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders came about February 2nd
After running the four-game gauntlet to win the national championship, it feels like Ohio State fans have not had a chance to truly savor what was earned on the field. Almost lost in the news of assistants leaving and potential new assistants arriving was that Ryan Day signed a contract extension that will keep him on the sidelines with Ohio State through the 2031 season.
While I count myself as one of those Ohio State fans who are eager and excited to see which new assistants will be in place for 2025 and hopefully beyond, I am reminded of an old John Wooden quote that I believe Ryan Day has been demonstrating in his deliberative and patient coaching hires:
“Be Quick, But Don’t Hurry.”
Wooden won seven NCAA men’s basketball titles in a row at UCLA, and his Pyramid Of Success is something that has gained tremendous following by people outside of basketball. Wooden’s mantra of “Be Quick, But Don’t Hurry” is a straightforward concept of not hurrying, otherwise mistakes will be made. It is something that Ohio State football fans can grudgingly get behind when it comes to the coaching staff hirings.
As Ryan Day has stated, one of his goals is “to be the next head coach to win multiple championships at Ohio State...” Following the sage advice of a multiple national championship winning coach, albeit in basketball, is well worth the wait when it comes to the official announcements of who will be joining Ryan Day on the sidelines next season.
