Buckeyes Reportedly Bolster Offensive Analyst Roster

The Buckeyes not only saw attrition from the 2024 team by way of graduation and the transfer portal with the team but also with the coaching staff. Three coaches (two being coordinators) are gone and various coaches in support roles made moves as well.

According to a report from CBSSports.com, the Buckeyes are set to hire three different coaches into analyst roles on the staff.

Marcus Johnson has had stops at Purdue, Missouri and Mississippi State in his coaching career with the offensive line and has experience as a former NFL offensive lineman.

He will be joined by Charlie Dickey, who had stops at Oklahoma State, Kansas State and Utah on the line. Dickey has been coaching for more than 35 years and will add more depth to a position that saw turnover with the departures of Justin Frye (Arizona Cardinals) and Mike Sollenne (UNLV).

Additionally, the Buckeyes will reportedly be bringing in Wendy Laurent, a former Penn State offensive lineman from the Saquon Barkley-era, for a yet to be named offensive analyst role. During Laurent’s coaching career, he has served as an associate head coach and a tight ends coach at Dartmouth in the Ivy League.

There has been plenty of movement on the staff with the hiring of Matt Patricia (defensive coordinator) and Tyler Bowen (offensive line) as well as the in-house promotions of Billy Fessler (quarterbacks) from an analyst role to a coaching role along with the elevation of Brian Hartline to the offensive play caller. Other bumps have taken place as well and you might need a chart to keep track of all the moves. Change is constant in college football, more so now than ever.

Spring practice starts for the Buckeyes in less than a month and Ryan Day’s team is going to have to approach this upcoming practice window differently than in a normal year after playing a 16-game season that stretched into late-January with Ohio State remaining as the lone team standing in the College Football Playoff.

Spring ball will culminate with the Spring Showcase on April 12th, a yet to be clarified event in place of the annual spring game. Tickets will go on sale for the event on Friday as more details should come out in the near future.

Keep it locked in here at BuckeyeHuddle.com for all the latest moves with the Ohio State football team as there is no offseason to Ohio State football coverage.
