This is the 12th installment in a series where Buckeye Huddle looks back on each member of Ohio State’s 2024 signing class and the impact they had in their first season, as well as the impact they could have during the upcoming 2025 season. Up next is wide receiver Mylan Graham.
The very first school to offer a scholarship to Mylan Graham was Ohio State and from that moment the Buckeyes were going to be hard to beat. Graham wasn’t quite an unknown as a rising junior at New Haven High School in New Haven, Indiana, but he was close. Graham took part in a June camp at OSU in 2022 and was offered by receivers coach Brian Hartline. Indiana, Notre Dame, and Michigan all followed suit within a week. Alabama followed in July.
Graham was ranked the No. 7 receiver in the 2024 recruiting class per the 247Sports Composite and the No. 33 prospect overall. As a junior, he caught 48 passes for 1,149 yards and 13 touchdowns. An ankle injury hampered his senior season, but he still posted over 500 yards receiving.
2024 Season
Mylan Graham did not enroll until June of last year, which put him behind his classmates who enrolled in January and went through winter workouts and spring practice. Graham played in four games — two of which came in the playoffs. He did not record a catch.
The lack of production was not a huge surprise given his “late arrival” and the players ahead of him. Last season was a work in progress with some ups and downs. The ups started happening in practice more frequently over the second half of the season.
So Now What For Mylan Graham?
The Buckeyes lost three scholarship receivers from last year’s team, as Emeka Egbuka graduated and Jayden Ballard and Kojo Antwi transferred out. Neither Ballard nor Antwi played much, but receivers coach (and new offensive coordinator) Brian Hartline has shown he’ll play young players if they’re ready.
Graham is now much more ready than he was a year ago. He will be competing for the backup spot behind Carnell Tate at Z but will eventually be able to move around as he gets a better feel of his duties. Head coach Ryan Day has laid the blueprint down to his assistant coaches — he wants depth to be played. Mylan Graham is part of that blueprint this year. This isn’t an overly experienced receiver room, so the roadblocks are few for Graham to get on the field.
If he shows he belongs, Hartline will put him in the rotation. How much he’s in the rotation, however, is another question entirely. Graham is a dynamic playmaker before and after the catch. There’s always room for somebody who can score from anywhere, provided he shows the kind of consistency that can be trusted.
