Buckeyes Offer Ohio Running Back Favour Akih

Ohio State has spent a lot of time building a relationship with four-star Delaware (Ohio) Hayes running back Favour Akih in recent months. That culminated with a scholarship offer on Monday as Akih attended the Buckeyes’ first spring practice.

“It was great being down for practice,” Akih told Buckeye Huddle. “Just getting a chance to speak with coach Day and coach Lock was a blessing itself. Both of those guys are well rounded coaches and are both great leaders. Their practice was very fast paced and I loved how everyone paid attention to detail.”

Akih’s rise up the recruiting rankings and college recruiting boards alike has been an interesting story. The talented back has only been playing football for three years.

“I’ve only been playing since my freshman year,” he said. “I got into the sport because my older brother played and I always wanted to play with him and I loved to compete.”

Akih is coming off a junior in which he rushed for 1,653 yards and 15 touchdowns. The Buckeyes continue to love the upside they see in the local standout.

“It was a life changing moment (getting the offer),” Akih said. “Coach Day let me know that I have a lot of raw athleticism with no real bad habits since I’ve just started playing football. So he told me I have a very high ceiling and that I have a lot of potential.”

Growing up in Central Ohio, the magnitude of the offer from the Buckeyes was definitely not lost on him.

“I believe it’s every Ohio kids dream to go and play football at The Ohio State University,” he said. “So for me, it meant the world. Being able to talk to coach Day and coach Locklyn and seeing the future they have planned for me put a big smile on my face.”
