North Carolina defensive end Beau Atkinson is planning to visit Ohio State during the open transfer portal window. The news was first reported by 247Sports. Atkinson is also planning to visit Georgia per On3.com.
Atkinson (6-6 265) is a fourth-year junior who led the Tar Heels with 12.0 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks last season. He finished with 35 tackles and five quarterback hurries. As a redshirt freshman in 2023, he posted 19 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, three quarterback hurries, and a forced fumble.
Atkinson attended Leesville Road High School in Raleigh, North Carolina where he was a four-star prospect. He was ranked the No. 249 player in the nation and the No. 22 edge player overall in the 2022 recruiting class.
Following the Buckeyes’ spring game, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said OSU would take a hard look at adding defensive line help via the transfer portal.
“I think we’ve got to take a harder look at it,” Day said. “I don’t think I have the answer right now. But we’ve got to look at it. It seemed to me like there was just a lot of knockback on the offensive side of the ball there. But, again, I don’t want to make any adjustments until I watch the film.”
The spring transfer portal window opened on April 16 and will close on April 25.
