North Carolina Defensive End Beau Atkinson Transferring To Ohio State

The Buckeyes have landed a commitment from North Carolina transfer defensive end Beau Atkinson.

Atkinson (6-6 265) is a fourth-year junior who led the Tar Heels with 12.0 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks last season. He also added 35 tackles and five quarterback hurries. As a redshirt freshman in 2023, he posted 19 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, three quarterback hurries, and a forced fumble.

Seen as the top available defensive end in the transfer portal, Atkinson visited Ohio State on Monday and chose the Buckeyes over Georgia.

Atkinson attended Leesville Road High School in Raleigh, North Carolina where he was a four-star prospect. He was ranked the No. 249 player in the nation and the No. 22 edge player overall in the 2022 recruiting class.

The Buckeyes are replacing all four defensive line starters from last season, and have now added a pair of edge rushers via the portal. Idaho State’s Logan George joined the team in January and had a productive spring and spring game.

Ohio State now has a grouping of five defensive ends that they can turn to, as Atkinson and George join last year’s backups Kenyatta Jackson and Caden Curry, as well as former linebacker CJ Hicks. All five are fourth-year players, though only Curry and Hicks are seniors.

Buckeye Huddle will have much more on the commitment of Beau Atkinson soon.
