PICKERINGTON, Ohio — It has been made clear to Cleveland Glenville linebacker Cincere Johnson that he is Ohio State’s top recruiting priority at the linebacker position and his recruitment is about to hit the home stretch.
The four-star prospect has a host of official visits coming up over the next eight weeks that will ultimately guide him to a decision on his college future.
“I have Penn State May 16th-18th, Alabama on May 30th, Oklahoma June 6th, Ohio State June 13th, and USC June 20th,” Johnson told BuckeyeHuddle.com on Sunday at the Ohio Under Armour Camp. “Then I’m planning on committing after all of my official visits.”
The Buckeyes, led by linebackers coach James Laurinaitis, have made sure to recruit Johnson as hard as any other recruiting target and not to take the Glenville pipeline for granted.
“I talk to those guys every day,” Johnson said. “Coach Laurinaitis, coach Patricia, just trying to learn the system. I talk to a lot of the guys down at O-State and my boy C.J. (Sanna) committed so just hearing from him the reasons that he committed, just kind of brightening up what I’m seeing. I definitely feel like a top priority.”
The relationship with Laurinaitis has been key with Johnson and Ohio State. The former Buckeye linebacker has plenty of experience for Johnson to draw on.
“I feel like he’s just one of us,” Johnson explained. “He played with a lot of Glenville guys, played in the NFL, won the Butkus award at Ohio State. He did what every kid that comes out at the linebacker position wants to do.”
