Ohio State offensive line commit Sam Greer was a huge pick up for the Buckeyes in late March, both literally and figuratively. The Top 100 prospect out of Akron (Ohio) Hoban was the big-time tackle the Buckeyes coveted this cycle.
The Buckeyes overcame a period of uncertainty in Greer’s recruitment when offensive line coach Justin Frye left for the NFL. But the addition of Tyler Bowen in that role, along with Ryan Day’s guidance, led to an early decision from the four-star prospect.
“It starts with coach Day, really,” Greer said. “He can bring in anybody that he wants to coach. He brings in the right guys so it’s an easy choice.”
The trust in Day was big, but ultimately Bowen had to close the deal and he was quickly able to do that.
“He’s real laid back, relationship oriented, just a real personable guy,” Greer said of Bowen. “It’s easy to have a relationship with him. He’s going to be a great coach.”
Greer mostly kept to himself during his own recruiting process, but now that he has committed that is starting to change. The obvious target is his teammate, 2026 five-star cornerback Elbert ‘Rock’ Hill. That is currently a national battle with programs like USC, Oregon, and Alabama trying to lure Hill away from the Buckeyes.
“I talk to Rock every day,” Greer said. “Every time I see something online about Ohio State, I show Rock, let him know what the right choice is.”
Hear more from Greer from Sunday’s Ohio Under Armour camp as we went one-on-one with the future Ohio State star.
