ROSWELL, Ga. — Ohio State was able to pull linebacker Steele Chambers out of Roswell Blessed Trinity High School back in the 2019 recruiting cycle. The 2027 cycle has the Buckeyes keeping a close eye on big-time defensive David ‘D.J.’ Jacobs.
The 6-foot-5, 220-pound prospect racked up 112 tackles and 12 sacks as a sophomore and is ranked among the top five juniors in the nation, regardless of position.
Jacobs hasn’t yet had a chance to visit Ohio State, but paid close attention to the Buckeyes’ run to the National Championship.
“Honestly, watching their playoff games, it was just crazy how the fanbase traveled,” Jacobs recalled. “They were deep everywhere. A bunch of my friends went to the game and they were talking about the stadium was like three-fourths red. Ohio State, their brand goes deep.”
The semi-final against Texas was another interesting game that caught Jacobs’ attention.
“I’ve watched (Jack) Sawyer,” Jacobs explained. “I watched him when they played Texas and he had a game. I knew never that he was roommates with Quinn Ewers so I found that out. So that was funny how he made the strip sack and picked it up. Just watching him play, I think he’s a great player and a great leader.”
While Jacobs hasn’t been up to Columbus yet, Ryan Day has been by the school to check on him and his younger brother, class of 2028 defensive lineman Dawson Jacobs. The two make all of their visits together and would like to play together in college as well.
Jacobs broke down what is going to be important as they go out and see new schools together.
“You’re going to find good football everywhere,” Jacobs explained. “You look right now, the Big Ten was tearing each other up, the SEC was tearing each other up, they’re all good. So what really matters to me is the people in the building. I don’t want to be the kid that goes to a school for one year and then transfers out. So honestly, it’s just having good people in the building and a good place to be around.”
