FLOWOOD, Miss. — Ohio State continues its full court press on elite safety Bralan Womack. The five-star prospect out of Flowood (MS) Hartfield Academy has been a priority target for the Buckeyes for a long time now, but the pursuit continues at a fever pace with a decision date set for August 22nd.
Their efforts, combined with the track record of development, have them firmly in the mix as that decision date gets closer.
“I just know what they’re capable of,” Womack told BuckeyeHuddle.com on Monday. “I know what they can do with putting players in The League and keeping them there. I know what they can do from a DB standpoint. Coach Walton, coach Patricia, Jim Knowles last year, coach Matty G. I just know what they can do with their safeties and how they can produce them put their players in position to be successful.”
Womack has made numerous trips to Ohio State over the years and was one of many big-time recruits that watched the Buckeyes lose in surprising fashion to Michigan. But as he made his way into the Woody Hayes facility the following day, he knew the Buckeyes were going to bounce back.
“I think any recruit that was at the facility the day after knew it,” Womack explained. “So, like Coach G told me that it was a big loss and it might have hurt us with our seeding, but we’re going to get into the playoffs and we’re going to do what we need to do.”
Womack’s most recent visit was back in April to take in a spring practice and he was impressed with the intensity as the Buckeyes are showing no signs of a championship hangover.
“It was my first practice (at Ohio State),” he recalled. “It was just competitive. They know that they can compete for another National Championship this year. They know that they are in the driver’s seat as of right now. They have two of the top ten players in Caleb Downs and Jeremiah Smith, so they just know that they’ve got to stay hungry. The only team that can beat Ohio State right now is Ohio State, that’s how they feel.”
“So practice was just very intense,” he continued. “Iron sharpens iron. Devin Sanchez vs. Jeremiah Smith, just guys going at it every rep.”
