June camps have come and gone at Ohio State and so have some of the nation’s top prospects. One of those prospects was Baylor School running back David Gabriel Georges. Georges is the No. 4 running back in the 2027 recruiting class per 247Sports Composite.
Georges (5-11 205) is originally from Quebec, so his first language is French, but his second language may be football.
This past Tuesday, Georges got some work in with Ohio State running backs coach Carlos Locklyn, who speaks football the way Georges likes to learn.
“Great,” Georges said of his time with Locklyn. “I really saw that he can teach me things and he showed me what type of work they do at Ohio State. And he kind of showed me around too, so that was great.”
Learning From Lock
David Gabriel Georges worked on his pass protection, ball security, footwork, and more. Locklyn was there for every step, cut, and block.
“He made me learn about a new way to cut and be more effective in the way I gain more ground,” Georges explained.
Georges considers himself a one-cut-and-go type of running back, so the lessons he took from Locklyn were very welcome. They will go back with him to the Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee and be put to good use this season.
Georges has had a busy couple of months visiting schools and learning about each of them. One of the things he has learned about Ohio State is that it’s not all that different than where he is now.
“It’s kind of similar to my school Baylor because I’m interested in hard work,” he said. “Work to gain your respect and do your best.”
While Ohio State feels familiar to Georges, so does Carlos Locklyn and his style of coaching.
“Because I’m from a family of football players, kind of, my uncle is a coach and the way he coached me was always, ‘Do this, do that,’ and I would say military, kind of, like Coach Lock. So, it’s something I’m familiar with and I just like that.”
Georges said that Locklyn doesn’t let his players get away with anything, which could be witnessed if players weren’t keeping the football “high and tight” during drills. Too many instances of letting a football get too loose meant that the entire group of running backs had to pay the price.
Still Early In The Process
Despite the connection, David Gabriel Georges and his family understand that things are still quite early in his recruiting process. When asked if any particular school is standing out, he gave a cautioned answer.
“Not really, because everything is new for me,” he explained. “So, with my family, we are taking our time to visit and see everything because they’ve never seen that. We’ve never had talks with the coaches like that. So, yeah, we take our time and just going around.”
Even though Georges wasn’t interested in talking leaders or pecking orders, it’s clear that Ohio State has secured his attention. He watched the Buckeyes last year, particularly running back Quinshon Judkins, and saw how OSU used the running game on their way to a national title.
The Deciding Factors
Ultimately, however, David Gabriel Georges has a checklist of things he wants out of his eventual school.
“The coach,” Georges said. “How they’re going to play the running back. I would say school first, because my mom and my dad really want me to go to a great school. You need to get a great degree. So, my family wants a good school first. But after, it’s really, for me coaching and how they’re going to develop me. And I think Coach Lock is a great coach for that. He’s really showing me on the field and showing me some new drills and some type of things that I have to correct about myself and how I play football.”
Favorites will come and go, but Ohio State continues to make an impression. Georges wants to get back to campus as soon as he can, but he’s not sure if that will be for a game this year or an official visit this same time next year.
Whenever it is, rest assured that Ohio State and Carlos Locklyn will be ready.
