BRADENTON, Fla. — Ohio State continues to explore the possibility of adding another quarterback to its 2027 recruiting class as the Buckeyes are low on numbers on the current roster. Five-star Baton Rouge (LA) Dunham School product Elijah Haven is among the most high profile prospects the Buckeyes are looking at.
The 6-foot-5, 215-pound prospect was the clear top quarterback prospect over the weekend at the Under Armour Future 50.
Haven recently made his first visit to Ohio State back in June and the visit was a pleasant surprise to a player ranked No. 1 overall in the 2027 class by 247Sports.
“My Dad came up with me and it was great,” Haven told Buckeye Huddle this week. “You can tell the culture is different up there. They’re coming off the national championship, so you could definitely feel the presence of just the standard there.”
Ohio State quarterbacks coach Billy Fessler spent most of the visit with Haven working on building a connection.
“He’s a great guy,” Haven explained. “He’s on the younger side, so I feel like he can kind of relate in a way (others can’t). He likes to have fun, make jokes, so I definitely enjoy that part about him.”
Head coach Ryan Day also made sure to spend time with Haven while he was in town.
“You see him on TV all the time but to actually see him in person was great,” Haven recalled. “My Dad enjoyed talking to him, he’s a great guy and a great coach. He’s definitely someone that I could see myself playing for.”
With already having a committed quarterback in 2027, getting a second highly regard prospect at the position in the same class could be a challenge for the Buckeyes. On Haven’s end, he says he isn’t too concerned about that.
“As far as that effecting my (chances of picking Ohio State), I don’t think that really would,” he stated. “If I feel like Ohio State is the best school for me, that’s where I’m going to go.”
Haven added that he is looking at a possible return visit for the season opener against Texas.
