Ole Miss Defensive Tackle Tywone Malone Transferring To Ohio State

A little over two years after Tywone Malone signed with Ole Miss instead of Ohio State, Malone is finally a Buckeye as he has announced his transfer to OSU today.

Malone adds some veteran depth to an Ohio State defensive tackle position that can use it.

Malone played in one game as a true freshman in 2021, recording three tackles and a sack against Austin Peay. He saw action in 13 games as a redshirt freshman, recording 10 tackles with one sack and two passes defended.

Originally a four-star prospect out of Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, New Jersey, Malone was ranked as the nation’s No. 11 defensive lineman and the No. 63 player overall. He chose Ole Miss in large part because he is also a baseball player.

As a freshman for the Rebels baseball team, Malone batted 4-of-9 with two home runs.

Baseball likely won’t be part of Malone’s plans at Ohio State. Instead he will focus on his football future.

The Buckeyes return three veteran defensive tackles from last season. Redshirt sophomore Mike Hall, junior Tyleik Williams, and redshirt junior Ty Hamilton are all very experienced. The addition of Malone gives them another upperclassman to allow them to bring their younger defensive tackles along at a more responsible pace.
