Five-star defensive end Eddrick Houston has Ohio State official set

NORCROSS, Ga. — Ohio State is in hot pursuit of the one of the nation’s top overall prospects in Buford (GA) defensive end Eddrick Houston. The 6-foot-5, 250-pounder is a Top 10 prospect in the 2024 class and the Buckeyes are in line to receive an official visit in the middle of June.

“Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, USC, and Ohio State (will get official visits),” Houston told BuckeyeHuddle.com after his team’s spring game on Friday night.

The visit with the Buckeyes is scheduled for the weekend of June 16th, a huge recruiting weekend for Ryan Day and Co. Houston has already been to Columbus a couple of times and is one of the top priorities for defensive line coach Larry Johnson.

“Ohio State is definitely up there (on his list),” Houston said. “Great coaches, great community, great players. There’s a lot that you can learn from Larry Johnson and his teaching points.”

Larry Johnson’s pedigree and ability to connect with the players he coaches has been one of the big things driving Houston’s interest in the Buckeyes.

“I look at everything in-depth, not just with football but with school,” he explained. “With Larry Johnson, I’ve seen him a lot and just being able to teach and use a couple of words and you know what he’s talking about.”

Houston’s list is heavy on schools located in the Southeastern part of the country, but with USC and Ohio State in the top five, he insists he’s open to going wherever he feels will best prepare him.

“I’m just trying to go where it feels like home,” he said. “I don’t care how far I have to travel.”

The next handful of weeks will be huge in shaping Houston’s decision as he will decide toward the end of the summer.

“I’m going to commit on August 22nd and get it out of the way before my senior season.”
