PLANTATION, Fla. — There will be few prospects in the 2026 class who will be as coveted as American Heritage speedster Malachi Toney. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound prospect burst onto the scene as a freshman last fall, making big plays at big times for one of the nation’s premier programs. That has led to major offers, including Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State, among others for the rising sophomore.
The big freshman season didn’t surprise Toney who doesn’t lack for confidence and just eats, breathes, and sleeps football.
“I’ve always had those expectations,” Toney told BuckeyeHuddle.com this week on Southern Swing. “Everywhere I’ve went, I just wanted to ball. They gave me the opportunities and I took advantage. They gave me a chance.”
Toney has had nearly all of his communication with college coaches in on-campus settings as they cannot reach out to 2026 prospects yet. Toney had a chance to visit Ohio State back in the spring and has been very impressed by the Buckeyes so far.
“It’s just the program, it feels like a second home,” Toney said. “Coach Hartline, when you visit, they welcome you with open arms. The whole coaching staff, coach Alford, it’s a great program.”
In fact, there are a pair of Buckeye receivers that Toney looks up, one of whom is a former teammate who just arrived in Columbus.
“Davante Adams and Marvin Harrison Jr.,” he replied. “And Brandon (Inniss) too.”
Hear more from one of the most electric receivers in the nation, including what he likes about Harrison Jr., in our one-on-one interview.
