COLUMBUS – Ohio State camp season is here and players from all over the country will make their way to the WHAC to take part in one of the five one-day camps for the Buckeyes.
There is a lot of planning that goes in for some players and others make a decision on a whim.
That was the case for Cocoa (Fla.) defensive lineman Javion Hilson who made a decision inside of 24 hours to head north hundreds of miles to Ohio State to put on a show at camp.
Hilson’s former teammate, Cedrick Hawkins, got in Hilson’s ear and told him that he needed to check out Ohio State. Shortly after that it was all about heading north and taking part.
“It was just like that,” Hilson said after Ohio State’s camp.
For Hilson, this was not a matter of going out and looking for an offer as the 6-foot-4, 225-pounder already has a dozen offers, including one from the Buckeyes.
This was a chance to get out and compete at Ohio State and show the coaches that they didn’t make a mistake in extending that offer to him.
“I feel like I did a good job,” Hilson said. “I feel like I was the fastest one out there. Nobody could stop me in one-on-ones.”
Larry Johnson put the defensive line through the paces, and it was obvious that Hilson was different.
“I am quick, shifty, fast, I get to the quarterback. I can stop the run, do everything to be a leader and help my team,” Hilson said.
More big visits are on the way for Hilson and look for Ohio State to get another visit along the way with the class of 2025 star.
